- El citoplasma ocupa la mayor parte del interior de la célula; es la parte de la célula situada entre la membrana y el núcleo. El citoplasma es una sustancia transparente y algo viscosa. Tiene un aspecto gelatinoso y está formado sobre todo por agua y proteínas. Dentro del citoplasma hay otras estructuras, llamadas orgánulos, que son los encargados de realizar las actividades necesarias para el funcionamiento de la célula.

Para que en el interior de la célula se puedan llevar a cabo todos los procesos de la vida existen toda una serie de estructuras especiales, como pequeños órganos, que se llaman orgánulos. Los
orgánulos están en el citoplasma. Cada orgánulo está encargado de realizar una función distinta como producir, transportar o eliminar sustancias, o generar energía. Las mitocondrias, las vacuolas, los lisosomas, el aparato de Golgi, los ribosomas, el retículo endoplasmático liso y el retículo endoplasmático rugoso son orgánulos.
- Las mitocondrias son las “centrales de energía” de la célula. En ellas se produce la energía que la célula necesita para crecer y multiplicarse. La forma de la mitocondria es alargada y tiene dos membranas que la envuelven, una externa lisa y otra interna con pliegues que se llaman crestas.Las vacuolas son como pequeños almacenes.
